Put raw chicken breasts in a slow cooker with these 4 ingredients. It’s pure magic.

In the heart of the Midwest, where the fields stretch as far as the eye can see, simplicity and flavor often go hand in hand. This Slow Cooker 5-Ingredient Salsa Chicken is a testament to that tradition. With just a handful of ingredients, it’s a dish that brings warmth and comfort to the table, reminiscent of family gatherings and Sunday dinners. It’s perfect for those busy days when you want a hearty meal without the fuss. The salsa adds a touch of zest, reminding me of the summer canning sessions with my grandmother, where every jar was a promise of flavor during the colder months.

This dish pairs beautifully with a side of fluffy white rice or warm corn tortillas, allowing you to soak up every bit of the flavorful sauce. A simple green salad with a tangy vinaigrette or a side of steamed vegetables like broccoli or green beans complements the rich flavors of the chicken. For a true Midwestern touch, serve it with a slice of homemade cornbread to complete the meal.

Ingredients
4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
1 jar (16 oz) of your favorite salsa
1 packet of taco seasoning
1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese
1 can (15 oz) of black beans, drained and rinsed
Directions
Place the chicken breasts at the bottom of your slow cooker.
Sprinkle the taco seasoning evenly over the chicken.
Pour the salsa over the chicken, ensuring each piece is well covered.
Add the black beans on top of the salsa.

Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours, until the chicken is tender and cooked through.
About 30 minutes before serving, sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the chicken and cover again, allowing the cheese to melt.
Once the cheese is melted, shred the chicken with two forks and stir everything together.
Serve hot with your choice of sides.Variations & Tips
For a spicier kick, use a hot salsa or add a diced jalapeño to the mix. You can also substitute the black beans with pinto beans for a different flavor. If you’re looking to make it a bit creamier, add a block of cream cheese about an hour before serving and let it melt into the sauce. For a lighter version, use reduced-fat cheese and a low-sodium taco seasoning packet. This dish is versatile and can easily be adapted to suit your taste preferences.
